Which glamster didnt make it big ?

<font size="4" face="Arial">Wrong. TRex had several albums released here other than Slider and EW. My point was that the singles did not get that much airplay except for the few I mentioned along with Jeepster, but TRex was most certainly NOT "culty" as you put it. TRex had plenty of fans that were essentially mainstream, meaning they liked a lot of other types of things as well. As for DK's Rock Concert, that was FAR more representative of what people actually liked than some piece of shit such as American Bandstand.Quote:

Elvis dies...the entertaintainment section of the paper is devoted to it..Marc dies a month later and he gets a tiny write up buried three pages in..Maybe in culty circles he was big in the states but certainly not in the mainstream...
What happened was that people bought the albums and the singles fell off the charts.
In other words, the criteria you are using are incorrect.
<font size="4" face="Arial">Carl, the media was promoting punk in the late 1970s, so it minimised the effect glam had here. Remember, "punk" started here, not UK.Quote:

Markii, I agree with ya there. I mean, why did I have almost NO IDEA who T-Rex was until Power Station if they were so big? Trust me, I grew up on music, but I had never heard the name T-Rex or Marc Bolan. There may have been success in the early 70's, but he sure didn't take over the US.
So you had hardly heard of TRex until that horrible cover, that doesn't mean TRex was not popular here.
People just don't understand/appreciate the power of media hegemony here. They can promote The Ramones, which REALLY hardly anyone liked back in the 1970s, as being huge, yet minimise anything from the early 1970s and no one questions it.
I could go on about this for hours.
[B]<font size=3 color=purple>A radio station here in town has suddenly jumped on to the Ramones bandwagon ..Pretty sad..only 25 years too late..
[B]<font size=3 color=purple>P.S..I liked the *Ramones* in the 70'z...they completely changed the way I thought about rawk n roll guitar and I'll never regret that..

[B]<font size=3 color=purple>I coulda said al this in one post but I'm trying to run my post count up...but seriously...You may have been able to acquire certain rarer T Rex vinyls in huge metropolitan areas like where you are from but try and get any T.Rex in Fargo North Dakota of Flin Flon Manitoba back in that time...it couldn't be done..Jay you were obviously on track to something phenominal back then but it was not very well known to the rock music consumers..kids ,teenagers or young adults..Yes the media can get behind stuff you or I don't care for big time...but they can fool a lot of the people a lot of the time..Jackson 5,Donny Osmond anyone ?
Markii, I'm not going to continue this discussion, except to say that I fully disagree with every aspect of your posting on this subject. I will say that there was no cultic aspect to it, it was freely available.
Now stop or I'll tell about my knowing BOCult. I also know Patti Smith as well, who co-wrote one of my fave songs on their second release, "Baby Ice Dog".
How is that relationship of yours going? You know, the one you so profusely thanked me for not long ago.
